March is national Nutrition Month. Here’s a chance to find out everything you ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask about nutrition from a panel of area registered dietitians joining us from the Cincinnati Nutrition Council, Meijer, Waterworks and the Pavilion. This event will be an informal, open discussion so bring your most burning questions.

French Wine & Chocolate Tasting

Mary Fruehwald of the Wine Store in Montgomery will take us on a wine tour through several regions of France. Sample a variety of red and white wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and South Rhone. Savory cheese torte will be provided by Creations by Melody along with delicious award winning Vermont Cheddar cheese from Cabot Creamery. Also sample fine dark chocolate candy to see how chocolate complements red wine. Bring a friend to this entertaining and educational wine tasting.

It’s sometimes challenging to eat a varied and healthy diet without ending up with tons of leftovers or having to throw food away. Pavilion Dietitian Julie Shapero joins Meijer Corporate dietitian Janine Faber (noon class), and clinical dietitian Megan Rader (evening class) to show you how to prepare a variety of delicious recipes for one or two people. Osteoporosis Dinner Lecture

Osteoporosis is a major public health threat for an estimated 44 million Americans, or 55 percent of the people 50 years of age and older. Our Osteoporosis dinner lecture will provide reliable health information from an expert physician, an athletic trainer and a registered dietitian. Following dinner, our panel will discuss the risk factors for osteoporosis, methods of detection and prevention as well as disease management through medication.

In recognition of Osteoporosis Month, Pam Baird, manager of TriHealth Seniority and known to her friends as a “real foodie” joins Pavilion dietitian Julie Shapero to share an assortment of “dairy” delicious recipes. Numerous studies have identified calcium intake and dairy foods as a key dietary strategy for attaining peak bone mass and preventing and treating osteoporosis and reducing fracture risk. Unfortunately, nine out of 10 women and seven out of 10 men do not consume the recommended amounts of calcium. At this class you’ll “bone-up” on wonderful ways to include more dairy products in your diet.
